Mike Dix, Mike Dix, Managing Director Asteral, the UK's leading vendor-independent Managed Equipment Services company, recently announced the appointment of Mike Dix as Managing Director and Sean Williams as Business Development director.

The appointments follow a period of significant growth at Asteral as their existing contracts continue to grow – over the course of the past year, Asteral’s workforce has grown by 50% over the past 12 months.

Mike and Sean bring a wealth of experience managing major operations for BNP Paribas Lease Group and Syscap plc where they delivered substantial, sustained growth. Both Mike and Sean joined the Board of Asteral’s parent company Brook Henderson at the beginning of 2009.

Commenting on his appointment, Mike Dix said “I am delighted to be able to lead Asteral into the next phase of its development. Customer satisfaction is at the core of our business and we intend to use that as a springboard for even higher quality service and new business growth.”

“Asteral is a key linchpin in the Brook Henderson portfolio, so moving across to lead the development of the organisation was a natural step.”

Business development director, Sean Williams said “Ultimately, Asteral is there to enable our clients to deliver better health care. As the National Health Service enters uncertain economic times, this is an ideal time to help Trusts spread the cost of their capital investment while also improving the reliability and quality of their medical equipment.”

About Asteral

Asteral is a responsive and innovative company that understands the financial and operational pressures in the NHS.

We offer a distinctive MES concept that involves a strategically planned and evaluated approach to equipment management in the NHS. This ensures that every aspect of your clinical equipment needs are managed by us, allowing you to focus on patient care.

Asteral was previously known in the marketplace as AssetCo Healthcare. We re-branded and changed our name to Asteral in early 2006. The new identity underlined our strategic move to focus solely on the effective and efficient provision of medical equipment solutions to the NHS.

Lasting partnerships

Asteral has pioneered this approach over the last decade and our customers include University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Whittington Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust.

We employ a highly specialised team of experienced and highly qualified equipment experts including Registered Clinical Scientists, a Radiographer with proven skills in teaching and training and a Radiation Protection Advisor. This technical industry knowledge combines with commercial expertise in risk management, project finance and auditing.

Vendor independence

Our vendor independence is unique. It enables us to offer impartial clinical choice across all equipment modalities and deliver the best value MES in the marketplace.

We keep pace with the constantly evolving medical technology market and supply the optimum mix of suppliers at the best prices. This helps Acute NHS Trusts modernise for the future, deliver on strategic objectives and plan ahead for the long-term provision of care.

Catalysts for change

Asteral is a driver of change. The outsourcing of medical equipment provision transfers considerable risks away from the NHS and can provide the catalyst for wider service reform. By offering a complete team of clinical and commercial specialists we can help shape the future of modern healthcare.
