Two Vernacare products are helping hospitals keep one step ahead of C.diff, MRSA and other infections.
OOJust launched by Vernacare, the radical new Tuffie 5 cleaning and disinfecting wipe is more than a match for infection. It is scientifically proven to destroy five major groups of pathogens, including C.diff, MRSA and E.coli.
OOAnother key weapon in the fight against infection is the waterproof Vernachair, which combines a commode, shower and sani chair in one and can be fully dismantled for effective cleaning.
OOComplementing Verna’s innovative single-use pulp products and market leading macerators, these innovative products are making a huge contribution to the creation of cleaner, safer hospitals - for patients, staff and visitors
Destroys pathogens
The revolutionary new Tuffie 5 cleaning and disinfecting wipe is scientifically proven to destroy five major groups of pathogens, including:
nOSpores, such as C.diff
nOBacteria, including E.coli and MRSA
nOMycobacteria, eg Mycobacterium Terrae
nOYeasts and fungi, like Candida
nOViruses, such as Hepatitus C, HIV/Aids.
nOOne wipe suits all uses
OOThree years ago Vernacare set out to find a single universal wet wipe that could replace the multitude of standard detergent wipes available on the market. The product development team was seeking a product that was: skin safe, suitable for use on any surface or equipment, anti-bacterial, and alcohol and chlorine free.
OOAfter an extensive search, Tuffie 5 was discovered and it is set to make a major contribution to infection prevention. It has been successfully trialled at Leeds Primary Care Trust and trials are underway at a number of other NHS trusts.
Scientifically proven
Tuffie 5 eradicates pathogens on initial impact, but industry tests show that its sanitising properties continue to work after cleaning has taken place. Results show the product is significantly safer and more effective than existing alcohol based products and independent tests back up these claims.
Combined commode, sani and shower chair

Commodes present a major infection risk, but the Vernachair combined commode, sani and shower chair minimises that risk. Designed for hygiene, it comes apart easily for cleaning and its waterproof components mean it can be steam cleaned and washed in hot water for total cleaning.
Putting hygiene first
Derriford Hospital, part of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, is one of many hospitals using the state-of-the-art new chair. Deputy director of professional practice, Madeleine Jephcott, said: “We were allocated funding to improve infection control at the hospital and felt that the new chairs were a very positive step towards improving standards of cleanliness.”
OOPortsmouth NHS Trust has replaced stainless steel commodes with Vernachairs as part of its zero tolerance approach to infection. Ken Topliss, infection control nurse, said: “The previous chairs were made of stainless steel, which had corroded and effective cleaning was difficult. Staff follow the instructions on posters provided by Vernacare to clean the chairs thoroughly every day.”
